One phrase that is so common, but so WRONG

As everyone knows, I am from a very small town in rural USA, and while it is a very nice place, there are definitely some things that come with that title. For one, it is very heavily white and Republican with some very long-established beliefs and norms. For instance, pleasant as some people can be, there are some low-key racist comments and thoughts as well as some strong anti-liberal language. Because of the make-up, there are a few groups that are very prominently underrepresented including LBGTQ individuals. Now, throughout my time of growing up here as well as in my adult life, there has always been one line that has absolutely driven me crazy. Because people know about my family and friends, they are certainly careful about the words they say, but the common default statement is this: "I don't care if someone wants to be gay; just don't be all in my face with it". At first glance, maybe not so bad right? I mean they do say they don't care so that is accep...

The Joys of an Obsessive Personality /s

NOTE: I am not a doctor, and this is certainly not a medical diagnosis. We have all heard people talk about addictive personalities in some shape or form; it is often said they are susceptible to any sort of addiction that is long-term and lingering. Because I don't consider myself that kind of person (nor have I been diagnosed), I am not going to discuss it. However, I will talk about something I know a lot about dealing with, and it is something I tend to call "obsessive personality". So, when I tend to look at obsessive personalities, I look at it broken down in to several aspects. FOCUS I consider myself a very focused person. When I am doing something, I keep my attention squarely on what I am doing, and while I can multi-task quite well, it is seldom a very evenly split focus. But, that is not what ...

The Horrors of Cluster Headaches

I am not one to discount another’s pain nor do I wish to ever judge someone for it. I am aware that others feel things differently so to compare one to another would be unfair. However, when it comes to one topic, I will definitely put things in perspective which is why when someone says, “I have a headache”, my only response is, “That’s cute”. Apart from my wife and my doctor, no one knows the hell I go through twice a year with Cluster Headaches. For those that don’t know, Cluster Headaches are short-lived, extremely painful headaches that come in clusters. They are mostly a seasonal thing that comes at the beginning of every Spring and every Winter, and it lasts for about two-three weeks. This fun fortnight comes with 3-4 daily headaches that feel like someone shoved a burning hot fire poker through my right eye which then subsequently lit half of my head on fire. Bundle that with extreme nausea, restlessness, a watery eye, and touch-sensitivity to my skull, it makes for an ex...
